Gently Does It by Alan Hunter is the 1st book in the Inspector George Gently mystery series. I had previously read another, but now that I've got the first few books in the series, wanted to start from the beginning.

I'll preface this by saying that one of my favourite TV mystery series has been the George Gently mysteries, starring Martin Shaw as the Inspector/5. I enjoyed GENTLY DOES IT, the first of the George Gently books. The books are different than the TV series in many ways but this one was a fun read.

A police procedural, not a whodunit, and well done. I guess I prefer the TV series to the first book but that's because I saw the TV shows first.

I have ordered the 2nd and 3rd books in the series.4/5(). “One of the best ART broadcasts I've ever listened to.” These long form podcasts are like listening in on a really interesting conversation you might overhear in a pub or a coffee shop.

Guests include, Ali Cavanaugh, Alyssa Monks, David. The character of George Gently first appears in the initial novel of the series titled, ‘Gently Does It’.

In this novel, he is seen getting caught in a mysterious murder case while on a holiday. He tries to do the investigation himself, but gets furious at the way the local police handles the case. Alan Hunter debuted his Inspector George Gently character in with his own debut novel, entitled Gently Does It.

His son, with whom he had been seen arguing, immediately becomes the prime suspect, although Gently is far from convinced of his guilt/5(4).

Gently Does It was the first book in what became a long running and very popular detective series.
